چکیده

The insidious flower bug, Orius insidiosus (Say) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae), is a generalist predator that feeds on western thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), larvae and adults. Our study involved series of experiments conducted under laboratory greenhouse conditions from 2017 to 2020 to: 1) determine the number bug adults should be released manage thrips populations below damaging levels, 2) assess if integrating with insecticide spinosad (Conserve®) viable alternative plant protection strategy, 3) short (<12 h) or long (>12 day lengths/photoperiods affect predation conditions. We found releasing three four was most effective in managing chrysanthemum, Tanacetum × grandiflorum, plants mean per chrysanthemum < 10. determined can used populations. Finally, we ascertained not affected by [10.5:13.5 (light:dark hours)] [14.5:9.5 lengths/photoperiods. Consequently, producers release anytime during growing season, even fall through winter, chrysanthemum. In addition, integrate spray applications as do negatively bugs.

Predation by Orius insidiosus (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) on Life Stages and Species of Frankliniella Flower Thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in Pepper Flowers

We compared predation of Orius insidiosus (Say) on adult and second instars of Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) andon adults ofF. occidentalis andF. tritici (Fitch) in arenaswith pepper ßowers. Also, we compared the dispersal of these thrips in the presence and absence of the predator. For each experiment, two densities of thrips (10 and 20 total thrips) and two time exposures (10 and 34 h...

Compatibility assessment between four ethanolic plant extracts with a bug predator Orius horvathi (Reuter) (Heteroptera: Anthocoridae) used for controlling the western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)

The western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) attacks a large number of crop plants. The current insecticides have caused resistance in insects and have caused outbreaks of thrips. In many instances, alternative methods of insect management and natural products, offer adequate pest control and pose fewer hazards. Several species of minute pirate bugs of the genus Orius play a...

Effects of Bt cotton on Thrips tabaci (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and its predator, Orius insidiosus (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae).

Laboratory studies were conducted to investigate tritrophic transfer of insecticidal Cry proteins from transgenic cotton to an herbivore and its predator, and to examine effects of these proteins on the predator's development, survival, and reproduction. Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab proteins from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) produced in Bollgard-II (BG-II, Event 15985) cotton plants were acqu...

virulence of iranian isolates of metarhizium anisopliae on western flower thrips, frankliniella occidentalis (pergande) (thysanoptera: thripidae)

the western flower thrips frankliniella occidentalis, an important greenhouse pest, has acquired rapid resistance to the chemical pesticides. therefore, biological control is worth consideration as an alternative control method. among the biological control agents, entomopathogenic fungi showed to be quite successful in some occasions. in this study, three iranian isolates of metarhizium anisop...

Comparison of seven methods for rearing western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae)

ABSTRACT-The species Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande),western flower thrips, is a highly polyphagous pest and an important vector of tospoviruses on several crops and ornamental plants. Western flower thrips has been introduced throughout the world and has been subject to many biological studies including mass rearing. In this survey, seven common mass rearing methods of F. occidentalis we...
